Mandatory info - Permit to stay for study
Please remember that the residence permit must be requested within 8 days upon your arrival.

The residence permit is the most important document that you will hold once in Italy so NABA highly recommends to take care of it with the highest interest and than to renew it within the established deadlines (that are clearly stated in the residence permit)

Students applying for the Residence Permit to study ("Permesso di soggiorno") should prepare the following documents to include in the "residence permit kit". to be requested at the Post Office:.

"DOCUMENTATION PACKAGE" TO BE PRESENTED:
Application form, filled in and signed by the student (form 1 - Modulo 1) Complete photocopy of the passport, including blank pages Photocopy of insurance policy, valid throughout the country and for the entire period of validity of the residence permit against the risk of illness and injury (IMPORTANT: if you have only an insurance covering the first period of your staying, we suggest you to make the "INA Assitalia" insurance. For the first issue of permit, you also have to present the photocopy of the statement certifying the course of study which you will be taking, certified by the Italian Diplomatic/Consular mission, when the entry visa is issued.

COST OF THE RESIDENCE PERMIT:
Receipt of payment of 27,50 €, previously paid at Post Office with the postal payment form ("bollettino postale con attestato di pagamento") available at the Post Office itself, Revenue stamp ("marca da bollo", to be purchased at any tobacco shop) of 14,62 €, to be stuck on the first page of the application form. Amount of 30 € to be paid at the Post Office directly.

Total cost of the permit to stay: 27.50€ (cost of the electronic permit to stay which is compulsory for a stay longer than 90 days) + 30 cost of the application to be paid at the post office + 14.62€ (cost of the revenue stamp) = 72.12 €

IMPORTANT NOTES:

At the moment of presenting your "documentation package", you will also have to present an identity document valid at the time of submission of the application (it may be your passport or e.g. ID card) for the purpose of identification by Post Office workers, as well as an A4-size photocopy of the document itself (for the passport, photocopy only the main pages with the photo). Some Post Offices allow applicants to take photocopies there, but we suggest you to make a copy before getting to the Post Office, just in case you are not lucky.

Once identification of the applicant and checking of the required documentation have been completed, a registered letter receipt (mod.22A) is issued which lists the user ID and password needed to check the state of progress of the application on the Internet (www.portaleimmigrazione.it, enter the "Area Riservata Stranieri"). This receipt will substitute your permit to stay until when you will get the original of it, so keep it carefully and in a safe place, and bring always with you a copy of it.

The receipt allows you to circulate within Italy, and should allow you as well to go back home in certain periods of the year (you will have to double-check with the Immigration Offices, see "Police Stations on point 4. of your students' guide), but without crossing other Schengen countries.

The "residence permit kit" must be requested at the Post Office in Milan, upon arrival in Milan the International Relations Office will provide a list of locations where you can find it.
