What about the Teaching Staff?

All members of staff are successful artists and designers, bringing their experience and knowledge from the professional work sphere to the academy, and enabling students to excel under their guidance. Over the years, NABA has also collaborated with some of the most prestigious brands in the design industry: Alcantara, Coveri, Fiat Auto, Fiera Milano International, Guzzini, Krizia, La Perla, L’Oréal, Luxottica, Max Mara, Miss Sixty, Frau, Swarovski and many more.

Who are the supervisors/directors of each department?

President: Alessandro Guerriero
In 1976 Alessandro Guerriero founded Alchimia, then as now one of the most vital groups in the evolution of Italian avant-guard design. In the year 1982 he was awarded the Golden Compass for his achievements and research in the field of design.
In 1988 he opened the successful store Museo Alchimia in Milano as a retail outlet for Alchimia's neo-artisanal products. Recent architectural projects include: Casa della Felicità family home built for the Alessi family in 1988; the civic tower for Gibellina in Sicily in 1987; the new Museum of Art for the City of Groningen, Holland, in collaboration with Philippe Starck, Michele de Lucchi, Coop Himmelblau, Alessandro Mendini, which was inaugurated in 1995. In 1987 Alessandro Guerriero was the founding member of Domus Academy, the Milanese post-graduate design school; in 1992 he created the Museo del Nuovo Design which inspired the Nuovo Bel Design exhibition at the Triennale of Milan. His works are on display at the Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto, the Twentieth Century Design Collection, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna, the Groningen Museum in the Netherlands, the Louisiana Museum für Moderne Kunst, the Kunstmuseum in Düsseldorf and the Museum of Modern Art in Boston.
In 2003 he was appointed President of the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan and of the Cultural Association NABA Futurarium.

Angelo Colella - coordinator of the Graphic Design and Art Direction department
After attending the Scuola degli Artefici at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and working as an art director for renowned Italian advertising agencies, he decided to approach the world of Graphic Design in the 80es. He is now the managing director of a studio located in Milan and Prague responsible for the corporate image and the communication strategies of leading companies in different commodity sectors and for the organisation of artistical and cultural events and the production of gadgets. He is an associate member of ADI, Bg EDA, PDA and of the prestigious Type Director Club in New York. He is a Business Partner of Carmi e Ubertis Design, part of the Publicis Group.

Stefano Mirti - Coordinator of the Design Department

He graduated in Architecture at the Politecnico di Torino where he also obtained the Ph.D. doctorate in Architecture Technology., as well as the post- Ph.D. doctorate at the University of Tokyo (Tadao Ando lab). He was Professor at the Tama Fine Art University of Tokyo (2000/1), and at the Interaction Design Institute of Ivrea (2001/5).
(Interaction Design Institute Ivrea) (2004/5), and he is responsible of Design at the Id-lab (Interaction Design Lab). He worked and designed in Japan, South East Asia and in many European cities. He writes and collaborates with Italian and international magazines like Domus. For Postmedia Books he wrote the following books: "Toyo Ito: istruzioni per l'uso" (2004), "Yung Ho Chang: luce chiara, camera oscura" (2005), "Interaction Design Primer" (2006).

Marco Scotini - coordinator of the Visual Arts department
Marco Scotini is an indipendent art critic and exibitions curator. He lives between Florence and Milan. He collaborates with Flash Art, Tema Celeste and other journals in the field. Among recent exhibitions he has curated: Beautiful Banners Prague 2003, Empowerment, Genova 2004, Revolutions Reloaded Milano-Berlin 2004, Produciendo Realidad, Lucca 2004, Desobedience, Berlin 2005.
Presently he is working in Accion Directa, for the second edition of the 2005 Prague Biennal. In addition, he is responsible for the Gianni Colombo archive in Milan. Together with Maurizio Bortolotti has curated 2 editions (2004 - 2005) of a lecture series “The Utopian Display”, an investigation of contemporary exhibition models.

Francesco Monico - coordinator of the Media Design department
In 1986 he started working for the Italian State TV Network - RAITRE channel - and realised the TV program Pubblimania.
He worked for the Italian Private Tv Network Mediaset in the realisation of programs such as Target, Fuego and Colors TV.
He has been active as a professional journalist since 1996 and has collaborated with prestigious Italian and foreign newspapers among which the International Herald Tribune/Italy Daily.
From 2000 to 2003 he developed iper-media contents and coordinated the research and development project on interactive television at Inferentia DNM. He is fellow of the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology in Toronto. He is Director of the M-Node of the Planetary Collegium and member of the scientific committe of the Leonardo da Vinci Science and Technology Museum in Milan.

Margherita Palli - coordinator of the Theatre Design department
Born in Switzerland, Margherita Palli completed her studies in Switzerland and Italy.
She was obtained a degree in Theatre Design at the Brera Fine arts Academy. From 1976 to 1978 she collaborated with Alik Cavaliere and in 1979 with Pierlugi Nicolin for the realisation of the XVI Triennale di Milano. From 1983 to 1984 she collaborated with Gae Aulenti and took part in the development of the Project of the Musèe d'Orsay and in the realisation of three plays. In 1984 she started working with Luca Ronconi (one of the most famous Italian theatre directors).
She designed the sets of many plays directed by Luca Ronconi in the most prestigious theatres in Italy (Teatro alla Scala, Milan; Teatro Regio, Turin; Maggio Musicale, Florence; Teatro Lirico, Cagliari) and was awarded many prizes.
She designed sets in many theatres located all over the world: France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Spain and Japan.
She collaborated with famous theatre directors among whom: Mauro Avogadro, Franco Branciaroli, Andrea Barzini, Liliana Cavani e Cesare Lievi.

Anna Barbara - Coordinator of the Fashion and Textile Design Department
Architect. Prof. Anna Barbara is specialized in sensorial design, strategic design and sense branding. In 1999 she was visiting professor of sensorial design at the Faculty of Architecture, Industrial Design and Interior Design of the Kookmin University. She was a Professor of sensorial Aesthetics for the Techno Brain Master 21 in South Korea.
In 2000 she won the Canon Foundation Scholarship at the Hosei University in Tokyo, Japan. From 2000 to 2004 she taught sensorial design at the Università dell'Immagine.
She is the Coordinator of NABA Fashion and Textile Design Department and currently teaches Sensorial Design, Urban Design and Architecture Design at Milan's Polytechnic.
She has published books and essays on architecture, design, marketing and sensorial design and worked as a curator of exhibitions in these fields.
